MAPS FOLIO: SIGNAL TOWER, ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS, THE LITTLE HOUSE AND THE PRAIRIE, TERRACES CREATED BY EROSION, WESTWARD EXPANSION & TRACEABLE TIDES AND CURRENTS
B.j. VogtThis body of work was created while in residence at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France from November - December 2006. These artworks are a response to having created several large scale site-specific installations that investigated the biological functions of memory and a continuation of these installations purpose to create parallel systems that map the physical networks of remembering and forgetting. The aesthetics of these drawings is an attempt to combine the structures of the aforementioned installations, with the fundamental elements of maps to create new cartographically inspired shapes. While the lines on existing maps depict fixed geographic, geologic, and political boundaries, the elements within these artworks depict these lines ability to shift and change over time.
